Rafik Hariri assassination site, Beirut, Lebanon
This site is currently (June 2005) sealed off. A UN investigation into the the assassination of the former prime-minister Rafik Hariri is under way. Following Hariri's assassination, under pressure from France, the US, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries, Syria (widely blamed for masterminding the car bomb attack that killed Hariri), withdrew its forces and intelligence agents from Lebanon.
